The running topic is oral health awareness. Just for fun, I’m going to gross some of y’all out and then follow up with good news. This is a very extreme case of calculus build-up on a not so old schnauzer with photos (Permission of parents granted). The parents are great, both Mom and Dad, but without our veterinary help, this kind of oral disease that can sneak up on a family. I’m writing the first paragraph a bit more lengthy to give y’all fair warning about the picture to follow….for those that love the grody stuff, be patient. So many of us just don’t pay enough attention to oral care of our pets until their breath knocks you out. At that point, there is already an overgrowth of bacteria and oral disease has begun. Imagine if you didn’t brush your teeth! Well, the same thing can happen to our dogs and cats. Including early onset of both cardiac and kidney disease. If you want a better quality of life for your pets, brush their teeth. It’s cheap and easy to get started, just ask us how. So without further adieu….Adieueeeeeeeeewwwwww

The great thing is, even if we had to extract some teeth, the mouth heals quickly and you get back to a clean slate like new! Even this dog retained almost a full set of white and shiny choppers.
Here’s what we do at The Vet House: First you get an estimate of what we think needs to happen for your dog or cat. We have on-site digital dental x-rays if needed as well. After your pet is examined, we safely sedate them and begin to scale all the buildup off the teeth and the gum lines on every surface. Then we polish the teeth on every surface to reduce the surface area bacteria can grab on to. We then do a fluoride treatment to help harden the enamel, just like your dentist does. (Make sure you don’t use fluoride toothpaste on you pets though, it makes them sick!). Finally, we put a sealant on the teeth to help delay the onset of buildup in the near future. Wake up bright and shiny to go home the same day! All of this is included in our every day dental cleanings y’all. We don’t nickel and dime everyone to death to do the service and ours is affordable FULL SERVICE. No corners cut here.
